Martial arts training is physical, and physical training carries a risk of injury. The articles, guides, and tools on Mat Manual are instruction and information. They are not a substitute for training under a qualified instructor who can see you, correct you, and judge what you are ready for.
Train within your limits. Learn falling, striking, throwing, grappling, and weapons skills progressively and under supervision, especially when a technique is new to you. Stop and seek qualified help when something hurts in a way that feels wrong. The load progressions, conditioning plans, and practice structures published here assume a healthy adult training sensibly; adapt them to your own body and circumstances.
Not medical advice. Nothing on this site diagnoses, treats, or prescribes for any injury or condition. Content about staying healthy, managing soreness, or returning to training after a layoff is general information, not medical guidance. Talk to a physician or another qualified professional about your own situation, and before beginning a new training or conditioning program.
Check your environment and gear. Train on suitable surfaces, with suitable equipment, and with partners who share the same care for safety. Follow your own school's rules and your instructor's direction where they differ from anything written here — the person in the room with you outranks a page.
By training with material from Mat Manual, you accept the ordinary risks of martial arts practice and take responsibility for your own safety decisions.
